As it is known to all, the shortcut of My Computer (or Computer) is not automatically added to the desktop in Windows 8 or 8.1 computers. And for ease of use, a great many users will add it by themselves, but the problem is that they want to add it to not any other places of the desktop but the taskbar and have no idea about how to do it. In consequence, this article will introduce two methods to realize adding My Computer to desktop taskbar on Windows 8/8.1.

Two ways to add My Computer to taskbar on Windows 8/8.1:
Way 1: Add My Computer to taskbar by making it as a new toolbar.
Step 1: Right-tap any blank area on the taskbar to open the context menu, choose Toolbars in the menu and click New toolbar.
Step 2: In the window of New Toolbar-Choose a folder, select Desktop on the left list, choose Computer in the pop-up results, and tap Select Folder button.
Shortly after these two steps, the shortcut of Computer is added to the taskbar, as exhibited in the following screen shot.
Way 2: Add My Computer to taskbar through changing File Explorer to My Computer.
By means of this method, you are able to make the shortcut of File Explorer on the task function as the shortcut of My Computer. In other words, you can click File Explorer icon to enter My Computer directly. For more information, please refer to the steps below.
Step 1: Open File Explorer Properties.
Simultaneously press Shift key and right-click the icon of File Explorer on the taskbar to open a list, and choose Properties in it.
Step 2: Change the value of Shortcut Target.

As the File Explorer Properties window appears, in Shortcut, change the value of Target to the following one and click OK.

Tips: In the new value, the comma (,) must be added at the end. Moreover, if you want to have the value restored to the original one, you can change it to
'C:Usersadministrator1AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsLibraries' (without double quotation marks) and tap OK. BTW, in the value, 'administrator 1' refers to the name of the user folder, which may differ from computer to computer.

With the two procedures above done, by clicking the File Explorer icon on the taskbar, My Computer (or Computer) can be opened instantly.
